Dr. Barrios studied the Food Chemistry program at National Autonomous University of Mexico (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México ) (UNAM). In 1995, she began her career in science as an assistant in the Pharmacology and Behavior Laboratory. Then, in 2005, she obtained her Master’s Degree in Behavioral Sciences (option Neuroscience), and went on to earn her Doctorate in the same area of study in 2008.

In 2006, she worked as a Professor-Researcher (Associate “B”) at the Neuroscience Institute, in the line of alcohol addiction and the effect of administering diverse antagonists and hormones. From 2012 to the present she has occupied a position as Professor-Researcher (Titular “A”) and focused her studies on issues related to eating behavior, specifically, foods addiction that are rich in fats and carbohydrates.

Dr. Barrios began her teaching career in 2007 when she imparted an optional class on Food Microbiology at the undergraduate level in the Biology and Veterinary Science Program. Later, in 2011, she offered a course on Food Behavior in the Graduate Program in Behavioral Sciences (option Neuroscience). She has also directed numerous seminars based on targeted readings.

She has published several scientific articles in prestigious journals and works of scientific dissemination at the international level, as well as various chapters in scientific books. She has a significant number of citations to her works in diverse scientific journals, and has presented the results of her various research projects at national and international academic forums of recognized prestige.

Since 2008, Dr. Barrios has been a member of the Society of Neuroscience, and from 2010 to the present has belonged to Mexico’s National System of Researchers (Sistema Nacional de Investigadores) (SNI) as a Candidate for National Researcher status. She has participated in the Stimulus Program for Teaching Performance at the University of Guadalajara, and as a Professor with a PROMEP profile.

In 2012, Dr. Barrios was invited to spend one academic term at the Psychobiology Laboratory at the Faculty of Psychology at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. In 2013, she was named Coordinator of the Neurosciences event held in the month of July.
