Dr. Amezcua studied her B.A. in Psychology in the Facultad de Psicología del Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios superiores de Occidente (Faculty of Psychology at Mexico’s Western Institute of Technology and Higher Education) (ITESO, 1988-1992). In 1995, she joined the Psychophysiology of Cognitive and Emotional Processes Laboratory at the Instituto de Neurociencias (Neuroscience Institute), Universidad de Guadalajara (University of Guadalajara), under the direction of Dr. Julieta Ramos Loyo, with whom she undertook studies of the relation between the functioning of the nervous system and cognitive and emotional processes. She presented her Master’s thesis to obtain her degree in General Experimental Psychology at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (Mexico’s National Autonomous University) (UNAM, October 2000). In 2001, she entered the Doctoral Program in the Behavioral Sciences (option Neuroscience) at the Neuroscience Institute (University of Guadalajara), where she obtained her Ph.D. in May 2006.

She is now a Full-time Professor-Researcher in the Neurophysiology of Reproductive Behavior Laboratory at the Neuroscience Institute, directed by Dr. Marisela Hernández González. Dr. Amezcua is a member of Mexico’s National System of Researchers (Level 1). She has participated in the publication of several articles in national and international journals, and has written various book chapters.

Her current line of research concerns the electrophysiology of human sexual and maternal behavior.
