Dr. Mario Treviño Villegas

Dr. Treviño studied Chemical Engineering at the University of Guadalajara, Mexico (1998-2002), where he received a scholarship for excellence in Engineering from the HACU (Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities, 2000-2002), and a Telmex scholarship (1999-2005). He earned his Doctorate in Basic Biomedical Research (Neuroscience) at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) in Mexico City (2002-2007). He also made the following postdoctoral stays: at the Zanvyl Krieger Mind/Brain Institute, Johns Hopkins University, USA (2007-2009), and at the Max-Planck Institute for Medical Research in Heidelberg, Germany (2009-2012). Dr. Treviño was awarded with a scholarship by the Max Planck Society (2009-2012), and worked at the Max-Planck Institute for Neuroscience in Florida, USA (2012-2013).

Dr. Treviño is a researcher in Neurosciences in the “Laboratory of Cortical Plasticity and Perceptual Learning” at the Neuroscience Institute of the University of Guadalajara (2013-present). He has been a member of the SNI (Mexico’s National System of Researchers) since 2008 and achieved Level 2 in 2012. He has over 19 refereed publications (14 of which appear in Pubmed), and his work has been cited over 235 times, for an h-index of 7 (2014). He is a Member of the Society for Neuroscience and the American Physiological Society, and is frequently called upon as a reviewer by specialized scientific journals (Sci. Rep., Plos One) and research projects for national organisms, such as CONACYT-Mexico.
