The Instituto de Neurociencias was created in May 1994 as part of the Centro Universitario de Ciencias Biológicas y Agropecuarias –CUCBA (University Center of Biological and Agricultural Sciences) of the Universidad de Guadalajara (Guadalajara University). Its general objective is to “promote interdisciplinary research and teaching programs in the areas of Neurochemistry, Neuropharmacology, Psychophysiology, Development of the Nervous System, Neuropsychology, and Cognitive & Behavioral Disorders, while its more specific objectives include the following:

  • Training competent researchers to carry out original studies about the brain- behavior and cognition relationship.
  • Strengthening the teaching and research faculties of universities and research centers in Mexico.
  • Collaborations in the decentralization of scientific research.
  • Promoting multidisciplinary research in the Neurosciences with disciplines linked to such areas of knowledge as: social, sciences, ecology, education, clinical neuropsychology, among others.

    The Postgraduate Programs in Neurosciences at the Master’s and Doctoral degrees were established in September 1995 with a certification of the Secretaría de Educación Pública -SEP (Mexican Ministry of Education), and with the category of “Programs of Academic Excellence” from the Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología – CONACyT (National Council for Science and Technology)”.
